I'm sort of with Sarah on this one. I have friends, I go out and socialize etc. but no one that I hang out with knows I play Maplestory or other games online.
If I told them I played, would they judge me? Probably just laugh about it and shrug it off and life would go on but it's something I don't feel the need to bring up because it's basically a guilty pleasure I don't want people knowing about me. Yes, I do care a lot about what people think of me. I can admit I am insecure at times, although I do agree that being aware of what others think of you is a good thing unless you're fine with being a loner and not having friends.
There's nothing wrong with putting a limit on how much you share your life with others. I have no need to tell anyone about my gaming habits, and Maplestory is a kiddie looking game that has turned pretty shitty anyway so yes I am embarrassed that I do play it sometimes. I keep my gamer life completely separate from my social life because I have no desire to combine the two.
