Anyway. i have a bunch of the mastery books from hob king PQ anyway. Might as well put them to use right? though slash storm may be a bit of a problem since that book only comes from gach...

Basically, the event for getting the books only runs a few days, then stops, then starts again. You have to make your character during one of these time periods to get the mastery books upon arrival in Maple Island.
