Anti-Flaking Tables

So I'm using this IKEA table from about two years back, and the surface is beginning to flake (actually has been flaking for a while, I just haven't paid much attention to it). I've been putting hot stuff directly onto it (yeah, I know, dumb me, sorry) and that's how the white surface stuff's been getting dislodged from the table. Thing is, I've noticed blood in my stool as of late and was wondering where it was coming from, so I came to the hypothesis that the white stuff could be getting in my food and poisoning me. I'm not even sure what kind of white stuff it is, it looks synthetic and kinda like plastic but that's all I can describe about it. Some flakes are small enough to be carried in the air. The table's in the same room as my bed.

I wanted to get a new table, and was wondering what kind doesn't flake when exposed to relatively high heat (boiling water tempeerature). Any ideas? I'm using a plastic cover as a temporary measure, but I don't think that it's a very effective long-term situation.

Aside from that, does anyone know if eating instant noodles in the morning or if drinking milk when you wake up can cause bloody diarrhoea? As in, blood in the stool. I'm trying to figure out what this occurence is a result of.
