Indeed. Kingdom hearts have a vast story and characters develompment (though it started to become retarded with the second installment), whereas Zelda is lacking. If you play KH without understanding it, maybe you should play Tetris instead.
Also, if it takes two extreme fanboys to dig out such a simple thing as how the Zelda games are connected, maybe Nintendo might want to consider another approach in the future. Or we will all just keep playing and loving the games without ever giving a rotten fig for the simple little tale.
