Just had a game with much more serious players in it this time (with Zendaine of sp.net and his friends).
I ended up top Ashe vs. Ashe. She started with Doran's Blade, while I started with a Long Sword + pot. I didn't do too well early game because they had globals (Pantheon + Shen), and I did a few mistakes that got me in hot water. Often times the teams would clash and, while not entirely wiping in any case, we all had heavy casualties, until the last two team fights.
I can't say for certain what exactly happened beyond AoE damage, but the turnout between stacking Doran items and basic starter items certainly had me thinking about overall game dynamics. Just about the only difference in playing style between me and the other Ashe was BT and PD.
Reason why I got the BT was because to combat assassin champs like Kassadin while further boosting my DPS. Though I would still die if I get jumped on by two of them.
