They get code updates from other versions and apply automated tools to merge the new code into theirs (or completely overwrite the old version). They don't have to actually read the new code and see what it does and how.
Anyway, yeah, these fail "anti-hack" measures have got to go.
"Oh look, HT is doing something for months that we never wrote code for it to do. Let's go back and see why it does that."
And that's after the fact. It's bad practice to even run into that scenario in the first place because they should be reviewing their newly integrated code regardless of it being included through automation or not.
