It was also a tough choice for me. On the one hand, a weapon left behind tends to end up in the hands of bad people. On the other hand, it seems to have been deliberately left behind since the murderer obviously have been using it. With that in mind, I think it's better not to pick it up and fall into some trap.
Can you elaborate on the flashlight too? Someone mentioned the possibility of using it as a weapon before.
