Thing is, parents, especially Asian parents, want to show off their kids as "trophies". It has, and always been.
Well, the body needs to get enough shut-eye. Trophy or not it's ridiculously unhealthy to go on for long periods of time without enough sleep.
Considering the the number of school activities, make-up classes, and amount of homework and studying that needs to be dealt with they're likely getting very little.
