According to his post, his executioner is already epic 2-line. You're right in saying that there is no proof that premium cubes would guarantee you going from epic to unique though, and the sample size is rather small still on whether it has higher chances of doing so.
That being said, I would disagree with you and go the other direction: You're gonna have to get it to 3 lines anyways, so you might as well get that over with first. What if on the cube your sword turns unique, it has good stats? That would leave you with a dilemma of whether to premium cube over it, so just get the premium cubing out of the way, and then go regular in my opinion.
