The huge problem was the split vote between, get this, the Conservatives and the Liberals. In Ontario too. If Ontario remained liberal, or swung towards the NDP, we wouldn't be in this mess.

NDP are far from perfect. It's pretty arrogant of you to call the nation stupid because Canadians preferred Conservatives over the NDP. I guess the Conservative Party must be the most idiotic group of people in the country because they don't think like Sarah.
I certainly did not pay attention to the attack ads and I voted for the party I believed in the most. Oh well, 4 more years.
Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I heard on CTV News, Layton gained much ground (especially in Quebec, where a significant portion of their seats originate) because of the lack of attack ads from the NDP and Layton's optimism and plans for the public. Despite this, more Canadians than ever decided that the Conservatives would be best suited to run the country.
Smear Camapaign 101: NEVER smear the cripple. It makes you look like a jerk. Anyways, you seem pretty right wing. I'm surprised considering you said you weren't exactly all that well off. As students, we probably'll get the butt of whatever possible good the Conservatives can make.
Plus, did you know, that 60% of Canadians disapprove of corporate tax cuts? You wanna know why? It's because that means less stress on individual tax payers.
