Once he himself chose to become a constant threat to the safety of others for his own motivations and beliefs, some sacrifice had to be made: either his rights, or the safety or lives of his future targets.
At some point, it became an issue of choosing the 'lesser' of evils. Like most of everything in life, its never as simple as black and white. Was he murdered? definitely. Did they stop him from contributing any further to the threat this terrorist group poses to others? Yes they did.
I hope to think that its not really the murder being celebrated, but rather the end of the threat he was bringing. Not to say that the threat is gone, but he can no longer contribute to it, either actively, as a figurehead, or as a source of motivation for the rest of the group.
