And, unfortunately, anyone who states this obviously has not watched the show or they would think otherwise.
As for the reasons in this thread, some of them I agree with and others I don't:
(a) I really don't find any pleasure in doing things that are considered girly. I don't even find MLP to be girly. It's a family show that everyone can watch and find something to like.
(b) The charm is the main reason why I liked the show. The plot devices used are simple, and it's easier for older adults to see deeper plot interactions - many of them existing from older greek and folklore tales - to the point where I can guess what will happen before it happens. It's even interesting when Twilight Sparkle's research jabs or makes fun of the show itself.
Here's the way I knew that I would like this show even from the first episode (WARNING: PLOT SPOILERS IN NEXT BLOCK OF TEXT)
SPARKLE: Take a note please - to the princess.
SPIKE: Oookie-dokie.
SPARKLE: "My dearest teacher, my continuing studies of pony magic have led me to discover that we are on the precipice of disaster."
SPIKE: Hold on... Preci---Preci...
SPARKLE: Threshold.
SPIKE: Thre...?
SPARKLE: Eh, brink?
SPIKE: *dumbfounded*
SPARKLE: Ugh! That something really bad is about to happen.
SPIKE: *Scribbles*
That part of the script made me feel included and reminded me that this isn't a show just for kids. It's for any age to enjoy because it will include higher levels of reasoning and humor so I won't feel bored to death watching something like Barney or having my intelligence insulted in Sesame Street.
