I believe this story to be true, but it may just be because Abbi wasn't the type to lie for no particular reason:
About four years ago, I was living next to a girl named Abbi. She told me a story of when her aunt was growing up in Vermont.
She was about seven at the time and had just moved with her parents from their former house to one swallowed by a few miles of elderly flora. The house seemed cozy enough.
Two nights after settling in, the girl complained to her mother of an awful feeling that she was being watched while in bed, and of a rotten smell permeating her room. Being the caring parent she was, the disturbed little child was told to stop lying and go back to bed.
After a couple of days, the lack of sleep from the girl's growing fear was making her more and more irritable. She worked up a nerve to demand that her parents investigate the room. Her father discovered a dead fox next to the girl's window. He explained the source of the smell to his now-slightly relieved daughter.
A few more nights pass by; the girl was still troubled by her apparently non-existent bedtime voyeur and repulsive smell. Once more, she had her father search every corner of her room to ease her mind. He checked everywhere.
Just before abandoning his mission, he impulsively chose to open the room's vent to look in. To his horror, there lay still the body of a man whose face was encrusted with screws; his glassy eyes staring into the father's; his lips affixed into a pale ring.
A visit from the police confirmed that this body once belonged to a mob informant from New York who went missing the previous week.
