If you really think about it, there is a popular expectation of a "man." He can screw a different girl every night. He has to be sophisticated, wealthy, know a lot of worthless $hit like about wine and fencing and horseback riding. That is Hugh Hefner, who packaged all that $hit together and sold it as Playboy. That image is why men buy Playboy, because it packages sophistication with porn. That is why Hefner is successful.
Then you have the popular expectation of a "woman." Not the same as a player, because she doesn't have to be sophisticated, just extremely attractive and have tons of money to buy worthless $hit. Worthless women aspire to different things than worthless men. That is Paris Hilton. That is why Hilton is successful.
Note that I am saying "popular." A university professor, high school principal or a classical musician will abhor both of these archetypes. But the barslut and the bar manwhore in essence lust to be like them. Let's face it, ladies and gentlemen, there are more of them than there are of us. The truly disturbing thing about America is that Paris Hilton and Hugh Hefner are admired in the open, more so than people that contribute far more to the country's cultural development.
