I am also in the same situation. I want to farm a few Maple weapons in a bit though, I'm curious if I open a slot in the Equip window, will one of my rings auto-unequip...
I'm toting around a tradable level 9 Evo 2 that I wouldn't mind losing in the name of science, does anyone know, if rings were to auto-unequip, which slot would unequip first?
Update: If you clear a slot in your equip inventory, a ring will unequip automatically. For me, it was the lower right ring slot, coincidentally my tradable level 9 Evo II. I performed the drop to pick up a Pyrope gun, the slot was then filled with the ring. I approached the gun needing to drop another item, I dropped the item and before my second Evo Ring 2 could fill it I picked up the gun.
Conclusion: If you drop an equip and pick up another equip in some sort time frame, you can retain all of your rings.
Word of Caution: Dumbly, I equipped a Zombie Ring I had on me and forgot I then would have a free slot, back to one Evo Ring 2 for me.
