Greensick

So as I've posted before, next year I intend to travel to the United States. I've been reading up testimonials from other students studying abroad and a lot of them mention getting 'greensick'. New Zealand is allegedly an extremely green country, and travelers often report longing for the sight of trees / bushes / grass etc. like they have at home. Out of curiosity, I'm wondering how I would fare. Having never traveled, I am completely ignorant. So, specifically hearing from the US/Californian residents (though all are welcome), how do you rate your 'green' in comparison to mine? A leisurely stroll through my hometown gives you scenery such as:
