More questions about possibly even more paranoid stuff
#1
Okay, before I start, I suppose I should explain what happened to me about half an hour ago.

I was sitting in the FM waiting for things to sell. I decided to alt+tab and go to Basilmarket. Upon reaching the bowman section (the page I always enter Basilmarket from), stuff suddenly started going haywire.

The internet page was screaming at me something about finding security threats on my computer, showing the standard 'my computer' files and then showing me a scanning progress bar with stuff like 'trojan' and 'keylogger'. Trying to leave the page resulted in a window popping up, screaming that if I left the page, my computer would be left vulnerable to these new threats.

Perhaps it was probably just scareware, but it could have been scareware that was in the process of installing all of that crap on the side, so I panicked and manually shut off my computer at that moment, off a belief that my computer would restore itself to a point where those things no longer existed.

I turned on my computer just fine afterwards, aside from the usual 'Windows could not... blah, blah, blah, start windows normally?' that happens after a system crash.

Yesterday, I saw a thread on NeoGAF where someone who had AVG claimed that the program was telling him that the Portal 2 program was a virus. The people who came in that thread just about unaminously told him to use Microsoft Security Essentials instead (with a few adding in that using malwarebytes on the side is even better). So I went and installed Microsoft Security Essentials just now, although I haven't taken a look at malwarebytes just yet.

For the curious, the thread is here:

So far, Microsoft Security Essentials is teling me that it hasn't detected anything wrong yet. So now I'm wondering...

1) Am I out of the woods as far as possible keyloggers from that visit to Basil goes?
2) Aside from taking a look at malwarebytes, what should I do next to ensure that I truly am out of the woods?

EDIT: Oh great, I can't turn off Google Instant for whatever reason. Is that something I should be concerned about too?
