I have a problem similar to this, but this only occurs on Maplestory.
When I bought this computer, it came with a pirated Windows-7. I didn't want that, so I bought a 64 bit version of Windows XP, it had 8GB ram so I figured that a 64 bit version was better. Until i realized that it sucked even more than the Windows 7 did, lmao.
For awhile, my computer would randomly freeze. No blue screen, no warning, it would just freeze. I thought I updated my driver, went to the ATI website and thought I got the proper drivers for my video card, but it still kept freezing. Out of pure random, dumb luck, I was screwing around with ''properties'', and found my Radeon driver, all it took was clicking ''update driver'', I couldn't even find this on their website! Now most of the problems are gone.
However, while it happened a lot less, my computer froze when it became idle, and would still freeze while playing Maplestory(this was only when I was in an area with more than 1 person for more than 10 minutes or so, I could play for hours by myself).
For some reason, Latale wouldn't start for me(totally different game), so someone told me to uninstall internet explorer 8. To my amazement, all of the problems went away. No more freezing, at all, and Latale worked. The only problem? Maplestory stopped working(I had IE 6, because IE 7 still didn't make Latale work). I got IE 8 again and Maplestory worked again. It tells me ''You appear to be missing some files in order to run the game'' if I am on a version lower than IE 8. I then tried to settle for IE 7, so far, no freezes. However, the computer still crashes when trying to play Maple, but this time it's a little different, now the screen will freeze. If I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, I can see my mouse, and move it around, if I have any programs running, for example, a youtube video, it will still be on, and through alt+f4 I can close them. However, the screen stays frozen on Maplestory, and I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.
I believe Internet Explorer is the biggest culprit here, I've tried quite a number of things, and IE seems to be the only thing that's having a noticeable impact.
