Nexon didn't make you do anything. They never said "Characters found wearing more rings than intended will have them deleted / be banned / be punished some other unnamed way". It was your paranoia that made you act, as you yourself stated.
Personally, I kept my level 17 ring untradable, but never equipped another with it, and don't particularly care if they fix the glitch properly or not. I don't feel my character is "gimped". Some glitch abusers have an advantage? *shrug*
