Lick your plate clean

There are starving children in Africa.

No, just cook less instead of wasting food or forcing someone to eat it.
And also, some leftovers can be re-used. When I was in highschool some of the leftovers were given to farmers so that they could feed pigs or some animal.
Where I live, in restaurants they not-so-often give homeless people stuff that wasn't eaten but that can't be used next day either.
Sometimes when I'm eating and I'm full and there's coffe, soda and cookies or whatever left I give it to homeless people and they usually appreciate it.
You don't need to eat everything in your plate, you need to be realistic about how much you can eat and what you can or can't eat.
You don't need to go to Africa or set them as an example, I bet that where you live there are homeless people that would like the food you made but wasn't eaten.

"Lick your plate clean, there are starving people in Africa" makes me think: even if you had (and you probably have) starving people next door you would either force yourself to eat everything or dump it.

here in brazil there is a legislation where restaurants are prohibited to give leftover food for the homeless people, because if the homeless people get sick or die or whatever can happen, the family of said homeless can sue the restaurant LOL .

anyway, food that is cooked here, wont go to africa anyway, nothing you can do unless you donate to africa or send food to them by yourself. not eating wont help them, making more or less food wont help them.
