My job was a great way to meet people. 75% of the people I hang out with currently are people I met working in the cafeteria. I started the job two weeks after I moved in.
The reception desk in each dorm at MSU has vacuums, toilet paper (low quality1-ply), and (frail) trash bags that I make good use of as well as a bike pump in the basement. Hell, I think they even have an iron and ironing board you can check out. Hawaii might do similar things.
