Forgot to mention it here, but this week SHAFT put Madoka 10 up on Nicovideo and they actually updated the animation on it. Notable changes are Madoka's witch name being revealed and a tree in the place of Madoka Mountain.





Her witch name is Kriemhild Gretchen, which adds even more yuri undertones. I haven't gotten much out of the changes aside from realizing the Gretchen relation to Faust, but I haven't seen what others have been saying on the matter to see if they realized any other deep meanings in the changes (maybe from her first name).

That's lame. We can't make (Race to) Witch Mountain jokes about that any more!

"Kriemhild" is featured in that story. She is tricked into marking her husband's only weak point (as he is invincible if struck anywhere else), and Hagen, the man who tricked her, sneaks up on and kills Kriemhild's husband. Later, Kriemhild takes revenge by decapitating Hagen.

My guess is that the name simply symbolises Madoka's foolishness and gullibility.

Im seeing a revenge of lovers theme rolling around here.

Yeah, something like that. It's somewhat fitting. Something along the lines of how Madoka "loves" her friends- the magical girls, how the world killed them, and Madoka as Kriemhild takes her revenge by destroying the world.
