The Disaster in Japan, How We Can All Help
GunisBack Wrote:Just like it wasn't Nexon's obligation to donate, but they did. So they are doing a good thing.

I don't see how they tried to turn it into a business oppurtunity, I really don't. They clearly stated how it works, and anyone who wants to donate can tell what they have to buy to help out. Let's face it, anyone who is going to buy cubes/etc. is going to buy them anyways, but people who go out to buy nx for this specifically aren't going to by stuff from the game tab because the people who buy that stuff is the people who regularly buy nx.

I really can't believe you guys just expect Nexon to drop all of their profit for a whole week when they are already donating so much. It's like me asking you to go donate your whole salary for the whole week...

We're not expecting Nexon to drop all of its profits for donation. Nor do we expect Nexon is stupid enough to go bankrupt for the sake of another country. That was never the argument to begin with. Those who do expect Nexon to do such a thing need to reorganize their thoughts.

On the topic of obligations, which you're so set on proving Blizzard is evil for whatever reason, yes, you're right. This isn't Nexon's obligation. However, donations were never an obligation of any company to begin with. But the moment a big company (which Nexon is, despite what many may argue) puts words on their official site, on an official document, or on a public press release saying they'll donate, they better honor it. That's when it becomes an obligation. I doubt we have problems here.

The whole issue was with the way Nexon described its methods. Using vague diction, lots of readers were/still are confused and may misinterpret this as helping out Japan through whatever they purchase through Cash Shop. This much isn't true due as pointed out by this thread that items under game tab are exempt from contributing funds towards donations to Japan. While I understand there are individuals who managed to catch this, there are others who did not. What appears to be the case, with much explanation given already throughout the thread, is that Nexon is trying to capitalize upon Japan's misfortune.

In short, if you truly want to donate towards helping Japan's misfortune, cut out the middle-man. Donate directly without getting something back.
