They stand by the machines every day and are exposed to the radation constantly. Its basically the same as a doctor using an Xray machine, but even though they are not directly under the machine, they still easily get exposed to excessive X-ray radiation, and they will need to take leave of radiology if their radiation detectors go off (to show that they have been exposed to too much radiation). TSA workers have none of these safety features and regulations
Edit: I completely forgot about Pilots and Flight Attendants. Unless they managed to get an exemption, they would be subject to the scanners every day they worked, perhaps several times.
