SHAFT tried to keep his name a secret at first, and were planning on having him use a pen name until the end of the series, but the staff list somehow got leaked out and just Gen's involvement alone was enough to mak the Japanese call it "Chidamari Sketch" (血だまりスケッチ where "chi" means blood. This was before the series even aired, it was being called Chidamari Sketch just because he was writing and Aoki Ume was doing the character designs. That should give you an indication of the reputation he has from his past works.

Rio - 11 - Daaaaa, Choco became a girl and wanted to be with Mint. Wait what? Next episode, we find out that Mint is actually Rio's daughter.
