I agree with both sides here.
Overall its not the best thing to do. but seriously, not EVERY part of the country gives a pineapple enough so that 'telling an adult' will save the day. In high school, it did indeed work, we had very caring teachers, one confronted a student right in the hallway boldly when the way he was being talked to didn't sound right at all.
but in grammar school, i went to a pretty poor area, I got 'bullied' in 7th grade, parents talked for me, it worked for like a good few months. The jerks went back to it. Some DID in fact stop permanently because they realized they were going -too- far on account of their own moral value. These are the kind of bullies that are dealt with better according to Sarah's opinion.
But some DO NOT have that moral value and don't care, even with awareness of the harm they do. These are the people Shikage would be talking about.
I got into a real fight with one of those types in 8th grade, and it was AFTER that they decided to truly leave me alone. Not because they realized the damage they were doing; But because they learned messing with me would now cause SERIOUS trouble for them, by standing up back then I drew massive amounts of attention to the way they act, which is much worse than a private meeting between parents and a principal, which was how that school chose to handle things.
In addition, bullying someone you'll get into a fistfight with every time you try is a lot less appealing than someone who will take it quietly. Either way, they get in trouble. So they're gonna pick the one that won't show everyone around them how horrible they really are or cause the end results of cops grabbing them.
I did run into one of those bullies years later when i hit 18. I ended up learning through a ex-bully turned friend (one of the ones that responded to 'talking it over') now a mature adult, about 3 of the worst ones (the ones that would not respond to Sarah's method.)
One was being abused by his father. Another saw his dad killed right in front of him (gang involvement) and the last fell into drugs and... was no longer with us. I'll never forget that day, I had never thought before then those guys who bullied me went through worse than I had. Doesn't justify their actions, but it was an eye opener.
