HOLY BALLS. There is so much going on here. Better than Fractale at the moment, as much as my fantasy-adventure bias would not like to admit.

I'm not gonna catch up on every single spoiler theory I've skipped over in this thread, but has the Kyubey-ish appearance of the Walpurgis shown up in an early episode and I forgot about it?

And I know Faust keeps getting mentioned, but I just went and read through the Wikipedia summary of Goethe's work, and it blew my mind on a whole new level. Again, if someone has already done this and it's in a spoiler I missed, my bad. Lots of forcing things to fit where I want them to fit incoming.

Homura becomes a Puella (Faust's Tragedy)
Night: Dejected, Faust spies a phial of poison and contemplates suicide. However he is halted by the sound of church bells announcing Easter, which remind him not of Christian duty but of his happier childhood days.
Outside the town gate: Faust and Wagner see a poodle, who they do not know is Mephistopheles in disguise, which follows them into the town.
Study: they sign a pact agreeing that only if Mephistopheles can give Faust a moment in which he no longer wishes to strive, but begs for that moment to go on, can he win Faust's soul
Time loop up in this bi'tch! If Homura has not yet been able to protect Madoka but has been able to redo meeting Madoka, is her her soul only half-way under contract? You'd think all this recurring agony and horror would've done her in as a witch at some point.

The current time loop and Madoka's story (Gretchen's Tragedy)
The first few scenes are a bit of a stretch. We could consider Sayaka to be Martha and Mami to be Gretchen's mother, but my interest was mostly caught from the later half of this part sliding into the episode 7+ range.
At the well: In the following scenes Gretchen has the first premonitions that she is pregnant. Gretchen and Lieschen's discussion of an unmarried mother, in the scene at the Well, confirms the reader's suspicion of Gretchen's pregnancy. Gretchen is distressed to discover the poor place in society of such women.
Pregnant with power, that is. Proceeds to freak out about what it would mean to be a Puella
In the Street: Generally works out with Sayaka as Valentine
Cathedral: Gretchen seeks comfort in the church, but she is tormented by an Evil Spirit who whispers in her ear, reminding her of her guilt.
Oh man. That scene in episode nine with Kyubey explaining everything and Madoka just kinda freaking out in bed? Yeah.

So then we have our time-loop episode and that leaves us at WALPURGISHNACHT in Goethe's Faust. We could see a good face-off between Kyubey and Homura, perhaps? We could call Kyoko the new-born child that was drowned, since without her to help Homura, Madoka's screwed.

This brings us to the last episode, Dungeon, Gretchen's Release
"When she sees Mephistopheles, she is frightened and implores to heaven: "Judgment of God! To thee my soul I give!"" Madoka's gonna go Puella on us after Kyubey reveals himself/some other portion of the incubation system to be the Walpurgis (see above screengrab?) in a ridiculous twist Homura was not aware of.
"Mephistopheles pushes Faust from the prison with the words: "She now is judged" (Sie ist gerichtet). Gretchen's salvation, however, is proven by voices from above: "is saved" (ist gerettet)" Homura makes some last ditch effort to stop Madoka from going through with it, Madoka does it anyway, some deus ex machina or more powerful representative of Kyubey's race saves Madoka from becoming a witch. That would be the straight-forward end.

The troll end I see from this would be a work of art: Madoka has gained enough power from all these recursions that she becomes god herself, breaks free from the witch cycle after Homura fails to stop her from becoming a Puella. Then we get some full-circle crap back to the prologue of Faust - "God has decided to "soon lead Faust to clarity", who previously only "served [Him] confusedly." However, to test Faust, he allows Mephistopheles to attempt to lead him astray. God declares that "man still must err, while he doth strive". It is shown that the outcome of the bet is certain, for "a good man, in his darkest impulses, remains aware of the right path", and Mephistopheles is permitted to lead Faust astray only so that he may learn from his misdeeds. That in itself is his main objective" and all the time loops were revealed to be some god-awful test of Homura's loyalty and friendship because Madoka is a twisted peach.

It's a lot of stretching, and I'd prefer a good old fashioned bad-end anyway. I think an unhappy ending would be suiting to the show. Still, literary exercises are fun for me.

Totally did not think of it as looking like Kyubey til you pointed it out. Good eye.

Freezing - 10 - Interesting episode. Im wondering if they would leave forever after taking the first Pandora or not. If they did, then let them have her. No matter how it goes, next episode will be good with the fighting and such.
