Eh. You can't be a plantain to people...It looks bad and can affect what people think about you. So you can't completely ignore/be rude to someone.
Generally what I do when I'm in conversations I don't like is that I let the other person lead in talking, and I agree/ask a specific question about something they said so it looks like I'm paying attention.
Person: So I my bio class is killing me.
Me: Yeah?
Person: The teacher is giving no homework, the whole grade comes from tests alone.
Me: Are they hard?
Person: *continues on*
