I think there's been a thread like this before, but I'll post it again. For myself, my method of studying is attending classes. Let the information seep in, sleep on it, then re-read my notes the night before the exam, and Im set to go. I havent bought a textbook since first year, as even when I did buy them, I never read em so I saw no point. Most of my profs anyways test what they cover in class, not what is in the textbooks.
For myself, procrastinating is the way to go. If there's no pressure, I cant work. I've once tried starting a paper 2 weeks before it was due. I spent 8 hours and got 200 words. The night before it was due, I spewed out the last 1500 words in 2 hours. As bad as some people say procrastinating is, I cant function if Im not procrastinating...nothing like a little pressure to get you REALLY studying =P
