Actraiser is in the wrong Nintendo system, Sarah. Not NES; SNES. Also if it's anything I also recommended the game.
Oh, another game I'd recommend. Axelay. Made by Konami, an interesting change of pace to Shoot-em-ups. It's a short game (6 levels), but it's pretty fun. Biggest thing is you can change weapons in between each stage; at first your main weapon is rapid fireballs, but at level 3 you get a rapid homing weapon called the Needle Cracker, and then at the final level you get spread lasers. Small attacks like a mini fireball won't always blow up your ship. Instead, you'd lose your current weapon, which means you can have technically up to 4 HP instead of the 1 HP most shooters have. Ramming your ship into a physical object or taking a 2nd hit when equipped with a disabled weapon will still kill you, though. It's also very pretty for an SNES game, and music isn't too bad either.
Sample of 1st level.
