Unless you actually understand the language or have a translation handy, doesn't liking foreign music end up meaning that it just sounds good to you? In spite of having liked jpop long before I knew any Japanese, I've always felt that it was kind of shallow. Maybe I'm thinking too hard though; there shouldn't be any reason to expect everyone to like their music because they find deep meaning in it. I guess that arose when a friend asked me if I didn't like rap because of the lyrics of most of the songs. I'd like to say that that mattered to me more than the music itself, but in the end I just don't like how it sounds.
