- First, know that there are two types of champs: Physical and Casters.
- If you know the enemy champs you're dealing with are physical-based champs (Ashe and Tristana are the best examples), build armor.
- If they're stacking AP, in almost all cases, they are likely casters or stacking magic damage. Build MR.
- If you know you're dealing with enemies that are known casters (Annie, Nunu, Fiddlesticks, etc), build MR.
- Of course, once you get these down, there are at times where you cannot tell if a champ is going AD or AP (Tyramediere is a fine example in this scenario; he can either go AP or AD). Wait and look at what that player building before you make a decision on what to get.
- Know your enemy team composition. If the team is mostly AD-based (example: 3 AD and 2 Casters), at least 3 of your items should be Armor, and get at least a FoN (getting Mercury Treads is by default). If the team is heavily AD-based (4 AD and 1 Caster), then stack as much armor as you can, and get one piece of MR. Vice versa, if you are dealing with a caster-oriented team (3-4 casters on the enemy team), just start stacking MR and maybe get one Armor item if its needed.
- For countering physical (AD)-based champions: Randuoins Omen, Thornmail (best against physical DPS), Sunfire Cape, Frozen Heart, Atma's Impaler (if you're going tanky DPS), Glacial Shroud
- For countering caster champs: FoN, Banshee Veil, Abyssal Scepter (gives good amount of MR, though IMO its best used on mage tanks like Amumu), Negatron Cape (if you cannot build anything else), Mercury Treads (very important; you will be focused on a lot, and reducing CC effects will definitely help you stay alive a bit longer)
- For best of both worlds: Guardian Angel (though I rarely use this item when I'm tanking nowadays; most people get this as a late-game), Aegis of the Legion
- And of course, if you're in doubt about what the champ's type is, don't hesitate to ask. You don't want to build the wrong items and royally screw yourself and your team over.
- Also...DO NOT GET WARMOG ARMOR AS A WAY TO ROID YOUR HP UP.
Gonna write all this down, thank you

Whats wrong with warmog though? I played a game against a Mundo who stacked warmogs and he was annoying as hell to bring down.. Can you not do the same type of thing with tanks?
