Manamune does seem like an alright idea. I've played a few games with him and noticed a few things:
Overload is really strong.
Spell Flux kinda blows.
Rune Prison is buggy. If you're chasing a target, and they're at the edge of your range, Ryze will stop, do the casting animation, but the spell won't go off. If you put W on smartcast and mash it as you're chasing someone he does this stupid seizure walk and it ends up slowing you right down.
