What's your main OS? I know if you're using 7 or Vista you have to plantain around with the permissions before it starts right, friend of mine is having problems where his won't boot anymore but he didn't change anything, perhaps a permission got screwed up when the files were updated. All I can think of.
If it helps I frequently DC about 5 seconds after login and then get account locked.
