What's YOUR favorite little pony?

It has come to my attention that certain individuals have shown a heavy dislike for the My Little Ponies: Friendship is Magic series and have expressed their opinions in a rather caustic manner. Many of these belligerent opinions lack the effort to tackle the elements within the cartoon itself and rather seek to find error in the individuals who find enjoyment in its entertainment. These comments have not addressed what makes MLP an egregious offense in comparison to other cartoons of similar genre.

Fitting MLP into a given genre is not that easy. Its storytelling is at its base roots rooted in 1980s deus ex machina plot line delivery whereby a dilemma is presented in the beginning of the episode, the character struggle taking up the body of the show, and finally a contrived solution (we always had extra tickets, of course you listen to the last person who has been burden the entire show) with moral consequence. Shows of similar nature are: The Berenstain Bears, Arthur, and Clifford.

If this is all MLP had to offer, then it would just be as unpopular as it was in the past with its contrived and repetitive messages. However, this is not the case as the storyline takes a backseat to vivid characterization that has come to be the norm of most Cartoon Network series cartoons: Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Dextor's Laboratory, Grim and Evil, and Pinky and the Brain. Most of these shows were dominated by character presence and the antics that ensued from their actions, rather than having the plot guide the action of the characters. In this approach, more emphasis is placed on the comedic absurdity that resulted from the individual rather than a moral message or the presence of a coherent plot.

MLP is a mosh-pit of both. The storyline is predictable, but it is well taken by the antics of the characters. Some decency has been put in to throw a few twists such as in "Griffon the Brush-off," even though more twists will be needed to keep the series alive in the long-term.

MLP has several short-comings in being a MLP series. Namely the strength of its characters will also be its greatest weakness. Character development will remain stagnant and even the most adorable of the ponies may become annoying when reacting the same way to a number of different situations (I have skipped over ever segment with Pinkie singing/existing as a stand-alone). MLP will likely amount to nothing more than a fad if nothing is done to add depth and greater meaning to the story. However its zany mix mash of themes and slightly better than crap storytelling makes it still amusing to watch from time to time. In. My. Opinion.
