I just bought Metroid : Other M for $13 Brand New
#80
I'm just going to say that I share the negative opinion of this game. Most everything has really already been said, and is being repeated over and over, so there's not much point in that if either side isn't giving up.

I will however note on the topic of exploration; sure you can re-explore at the end of the game, but that isn't quite the same thing. This game reminds me of how world maps are being progressively removed from games as times go on and that constant "point of no returns" are being thrown in that just force OCD people to replay the game if they weren't using a guide. True free exploration is something to behold. On that note; however slightly off; but still a comparison; I've always preferred Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time. Sure it was a side story reusing the same system, but there were far more things to explore and discover independently within the game.

Also, concerning the comparison of characterization of long running characters such as Samus and Link. I'd be fine with a change in Link. Main reason is that there are multiple different heroes that go by that name throughout the franchise. Because of this, I could care less if the next generation was a street thug who didn't care about responsibilities, but still stood up for his friends thus earning him his triforce of courage. He can be a different person throughout the times. Samus however, is only one person who has championed an image for women other than Lara Croft for decades. I may be a guy, but I feel bad for the few gal gamers that had once looked up to her.

Anyway. Opinions. We all have them. They aren't absolute. The other guy has them too. Same with his. Live with yours and let him live with his. Things aren't going to change that easily.
