As a stand alone game it would be decent.
As a Metroid game, it's terrible. No exploring allowed. Hand holding at all times. Sh'itty Japanese melodrama peppered in everywhere. Sakamoto is insane and doesn't know how to make a Metroid game.
Spoilers: No one played Metroid for the story. Metroid Prime had an interesting story, but they never shoved it in your face. I could spend a couple hours reading through all the computer logs and monster entries, but some people never bothered, yet they still enjoy the game. Other M forces you to watch the (terrible) story through drawn out cut scenes.
tl;dr, Other M is just a decent game if it wasn't too busy raping the Metroid name.
