Passive is awesome, the hp it offers is a cool boost and it's cheap after your cloth.
And yes, nunu counter jungles like a beast due to his consume + smite
And wards are something you buy every time you back to base and have spare gold. Buy 1-3 and ward key locations such as the enemy buff camps (to steal them when they're trying to get them) and dragon. There are some intersections in the jungle that are worth warding as well but you'll learn that with experience.
Ah damnit. I need to practice that before I play live games. FML
Or maybe if I win one more game on my Smurf, I can go buy Nunu and test it out with no strings attached!
For counter-jungling, do I just go up to the enemy who's killing the warded creep camp, unload my ult (if level 6+), then go for the kill, then steal the buff?
