A CC isn't a "bad" school. If you can afford to attend the University (i assume you looked for scholarships and such?) AND if you can't handle the work load and stay on top at at least a B average, you might want to consider the CC, since you pay per class, not per year (and per class in some cases), meaning you can take a break if you need to.
Another plus would be that in a CC, you could apply and get a job while attending classes (unless your Uni can give you work study). Regardless of which, a lot of higher end jobs require that you have a decently high GPA. Not a 2.5; not a 2.7, but something along the lines of 3.2-3.5.
1 hour commute isn't bad. If anything, it'll be like going to work when you get out of University. A LOT of people do it if they work in places like SF, where living costs are too high and commuting would be cheaper than renting in SF.
If your parents have a little cash flow, try to live on campus. Campus life will give you an experience of living with someone and will allow for networking <<- key to college. Networking will help you later on in life (as well as immediately, like study groups, opportunities for work, etc.) so it's a lot better in the long run. But if your Uni doesn't have that, then don't worry about it and commute (cheaper option i believe).
After all is said and done, it really is up to you. The University and Community Colleges are essentially the same. I do believe the University is better for overall community atmosphere and networkings.
And should you decide not to forgo your stated major, it would be better to be at the university as they have many ore departments than a Community college (at least in my area).
