I'd like to start by saying that I'm not fond of RTS games. Starcraft/Starcraft 2/Warcraft and the like.
I find the games take too long to "set up", and even then it's simply a war of attrition every time.
A few weeks ago my friend, Andrew, came over and asked if he could install/play SC2, working a 3-11 (local time) shift, I had no problem with that, since one roommate is always home, he only lives 2 buildings down the street, and his computer isnt worth the metal it's made of. I was in the midst of starting an FFXIII file anyway, so I wasn't on my computer when I was home, to begin with.
My roommate's other friend, Brandyn, came over and installed a special map addon thing, that added another type of game to the equation, Line Wars Tower Defence. I saw my roommate, Emerson, playing it, and wondered why it wasn't the typical Starcraft match. There were mazes of units, and waves coming at them. He was sending waves of monsters to the person to his direct right, as everyone else did, and each monster sent brought up his income (always in 30s intervals). The monsters sent at him, when killed, from the player to his left, also increased his current crystal stock (money hoard).
He explained the rules to me, and let me sit down for a try at it.
Having come in 4th on my first attempt (each match has 8 people), I decided to try another one. Came in 5th, wasn't good enough. Tried a 3rd match, came in 4th again. I wanted to push for a first place slot, and after my 4th match, I placed 2nd.
I then realized 4 hours went by, and I loved every second of it! I'm not sure of the exact map name, but I do know that it was fun as hell!
