Nearly every champ has some sort of stun or slow. CC = anything that stuns / slows / snares / surpress / silence.
just to add to this, im almost certain merc treads dont work against ww/malz ult or knock ups(xin,alistar, blitz)
To avoid double post: what runes are you getting exactly will? Something like magic/armor pen red, mana regen yellows and cd reduction blues are a very versatile set up that can save you a ton of IP until you figure out exactly what you want, both champion and rune wise. Armor yellows for mana less champs are also cheap.
