1) Blizzard gets $15 dollars per month from most people, which also happens to be the cost per year for each authenticator, not to mention having a steady flow of money from quite a few million people to cover licensing costs. This solves the problem of paying for them.
2) Nexon gains most of its revenue at a less-steady pace, be it from NX cards or PayPal charges. Not like Nexon doesn't make enough money from both of these, but Authenticators could potentially take a steady chunk out of yearly profit, between the cost of manufacture and licensing.
This is probably flawed, and feel free to take it as you will, but this is the product of a tired mind.
I think I'd personally pay $20-$30 per year for one of those. Not everyone would do it, but why not give people the option?
