Ooh, good point. Especially electronic devices, wallets, etc. You can check IDs for those, yeah. If you can actually spot an identification card, it's optional whether you'd return it or not. I'd probably return stuff like that. When I said items, I should have stated something like books, video games, etc. I wasn't clear on that, my fault. Money doesn't have names written on them (usually lol), so it's hard to find the right person in the first place. If I found crumbled up money lying on the floor, and nobody's picking it up, I'm obviously going to.
But I do see your point.
