If someone is careless enough to let their money magically fly out of their pockets and onto the floor, then it's my money.
I work at a car dealership and every now and then people trade in their cars and there's a $20 bill just chillin under one of the seats. What am I supposed to do? Go out of my way and call up this person and tell them there's a $20 bill that has probably been sitting here for months that they should come and claim? Why would I do that when that pays for my haircut and half of the tip?
