Depends on the amount of money and on how exposed it is.
If I found like, $500 out in an alley without any potential witnesses roaming around, they are mine.
If I found those $500 in the middle of a mall, I would probably take them and wait a while in case I see someone looking for their money. No one looked for them? They're mine.
If I found $8,000 in a briefcase, anywhere, I would leave the thing there and start running while looking around paranoid.
