Malware affecting DVD-Drive?
#5
Okay, here's so far what I have tried:

Firmware flash... could not perform. No firmware was available from the original manufacturer.
Checked Power Supply... power supply is more than adequate for this PC and shows no faults on tester.
Used original 40-pin IDE cable to read lone drive. Nothing appeared on POST.
Replaced IDE cable from 40-pin to 80-pin. Nothing reported on POST.
Used IDE cable tester to check IDE port of motherboard. IDE port recognized and operational.
Attempted to use firmware extractor/reader from DOS SCSI/IDE utility disk. Drive not detected by low-level firmware and drive access tools.

I'm thinking the drive could be dead at this point and needs replacing. Thanks for the input.
