Branching out socially
#2
What I've found is that you cannot just "go out and make friends". That's literally impossible to do. All friendships have a contextual relationship which is commonly with a place, location, or club. So you have high school friends, band geek friends, what have you. So going out and just trying to make friends often doesn't work. You have to engage yourself with a certain ideology - find something you like doing - and then find groups of people that do that thing. Then you will find yourself with friendships.

Don't worry about girls or dating or any of that. Just set yourself out to have a good time. If girls come they come. If they don't they don't. Or, better yet, invite a girl to your club thing and see how she likes it. Who knows, you might have the same interests.

Be careful about saying things like this. It destroys your confidence. You are a completely competent human being. Just get out there and do something. If you make a fool out of yourself, so be it. But it's better to try than have not tried at all.
