I think your situation is all the more reason that you should choose something that might appear "small" to others even if your heart is bursting. Remember...
it's what feels meaningful to you two, not what looks romantic to other people.

It takes a lot of talking and thinking and negotiating to really be able to put that into practice, to help make a relationship deeper.
