Being stronger matters nothing now, what with friends of mine in really crappy gear 2-hitting CoGs at Oblivion 4. Its all about level honestly, and very little to do with gear.
However, it will matter when LHC comes out, and the mobs have 9m hp and spawn continuously. At that point, you are limited in how fast you can kill, and high damage will mean godly xp.
Also remember, our LHC will probably remain un-nerfed (268k xp a kill versus 100k xp a kill) for a couple weeks, so train like a banshee for as long as you can before the nerf bat swings.
