It really depends. Some are collectors and are really into these either because they enjoy dolls, thinks they're cute, or etc. I can't even give an exact explanation, mostly because I don't own any. I have an archive of pictures, but that's as far as it goes. The prices are too ridiculous for me to even bother. They're obsessive-compulsive people, basically.

EDIT: Also. I'm unsure whether it's mostly girls or guys that collects these, but I think it might be 50/50, not sure. A lot of female Otaku collects them, for sure. But most of the guys that posts on forums and stuff ends up displaying mostly figurines.
